 Where?
Tugged away at the southern most tip of the Malay Peninsula
is this miniature island-state [648 sq km] which packs a wallop
of awe and wanders. Expect tropical climate with temperature
ranges from a low 24C [75F] to a high 32C [90F] most of the
year. Humidity is high, especially in the early mornings.
Rain or Shine? Showers
and storms pass quite quickly, although more prolonged periods
of rain can be expected during November to January. December
is the wettest month and February often the sunniest. July
and August tend to be the hottest.
What
to Wear? Fun
& bright summer clothings. Blouses, lightweight slacks
or summer dresses are ideal for ladies. For men, open-necked
shirts and slacks are all that's needed. There is air-conditioning
in most buildings, so those sensitive to changes of temperatures
might want to bring along an extra layer.
People
There are 4 millions of us! Multi-culturalism is
our pride and strength. We are Chinese, Malays, Indians and
people from all over the world who have chosen to make Singapore
their home. Although we speak our own dialects and languages,
we also apply two popular languages very comfortably - English
and Mandarin.
Getting
Around is
a breeze. Taxis, busses, trains and other shuttle transportations
are frequent and run efficiently. If walking pleases you,
don't forget a copy of our map from the airport or any convenient
store about town. Our street signs are in English and if that
fails you there are always friendly people around to guide
the way.
Safety
Crime rates are low and the streets are safe to walk in any
time of the day or night. For added precaution, however, it
is always wise to keep your valuables at a safe place at all
times.
Tipping
There is the usual added 10% service charge and a 3% goods
and services tax (gst) to your bill from most commercial establishments.
It is not customary to tip in Singapore and the practice is
not encouraged.
