First
on
our list we'd recommend three hot-spots along Singapore
River. At the mouth of the river is
Boat Quay (next
to UOB Centre). Here
is where the history of British colonial Singapore first
began - from a sleepy fishing village to a bustling
trading port as early
as the mid-1800s. Further
inward is Clark
Quay. Linking via a bridge will take you across
to the Riverside Point!
You'll
find everything from entertainment, shopping to dinning
for everyone young and old. On
weekends you may catch a glimpse at locals doing the
Country Western
"line dancing" (quite
a fab here) and busking
acts scatter abouts. Rows of low-rise buildings
that once housed cargo-storages and landings for bumboats
docking and loading, today they have been given new
life
to connecting paved walk ways,
outdoor
eateries and
night bazzars (Clark
Quay - tringet hunts & dress like us in the old
days and get a Snap!) or
glitzie restaurants which serve local and
international cusines. Other
venues also include
brand-coffee,
desserts and internet cafes, karaoke, music and
drinking pubs, jazz club, wine bars, beer
brewery and pub, night clubs,
hotels, service
apartments and
get this;
a gymnasium
(Boat
Quay) too!
To
top it off also learn the history about Clark Quay at
a multimedia museum. The
Bumboats are still
in service, however they no longer ferry cargo of goods
but of tourists and commutors. Simply hop from quay
to quay or enjoy the glamorous
Singapore water-front view with a backdrop of skyscrappers
and historical landmarks and
that's not all.
When
mid-night
strikes
turn out @ Zouk
- most frequented dance club by the young and trendy
and young at heart! (local
and expats) Located
in 17 Jiak Kim Street > Singapore
169420 > T: 6738 2988
> F: 6738 3988 > e: zoukclub@zoukclub.com
> Hours: Happy Hours & Dance Clubs @ 3am Daily,
Zouk (what used to be
a series of warehouses) features theme nights
(retro, trans, disco and what-have-you),
top-notch guest DJs from world-over and ZoukOut beach
parties! Of course Zouk is also the venue for fashion
shows, dance competitions and many publicity launches!
The premise comprises FOUR clubs to chill. Zouk,
Valvet Underground,
Phuture and Wine
Bar (out and indoor settings).
However, if seeing and to be seen is not your thang
and you are looking for the flipped side of "Singapore-isms"
you may consider The Boom Boom
Room in
the Far East Square (Day&Night
in FE Sq.). Set your heart a skipping
and lungs booming at the other frequented night spot!
(local
and expats)
A premier cabaret joint with our local
brand of satire humor by Kumar, female impersonator
and comedian. The other gigs also inculde songs, dances
and mainly "out-of-the-box" expressions. If
you are open-minded and looking for laughter and entertainment,
don't miss this one! It is located in 130
-132 Amoy Street > Singapore 048773 > T:
6435 0030 > Hours: 8:30pm - 2am Daily.
Mohamad
Sultan Road and the
Robertson Quay
neighborhoods bring you the latest hang-outs. Along
JMS is a strip of pubs and drinking bars with...well,
the hippest ambiance and crowds imaginable! Dinning
is a skip about...Indian,
Italian, Japanese or that juicie steak? While there,
do check out Ta-jie
(big sister), Madam Wong
and the latest dance club DblO.
Okay so now you are asking whatelse? Take
that walk out to River Valley
Road and up to Lloyd
and down Killiney Road.
If neighborhood pubs, bars and restaurants
are your scenes, you will enjoy friendly people and
some down-to-earth bliss.
Orchard
Road is a stretch
you shouldn't miss either. Flanked by Tanglin (West
at Tanglin Mall) and Bras Basah Roads (East
at Rendezvous Hotel) here are more than 20
blocks of bar-hoping opportunities. If you
are in for a little " wayward company of the night
", Top10 and
the rest in the Orchard Toweroffer
the action. Across the street (behind
Forum Galleria Shopping Centre) is another crowd
puller at the Hard Rock Cafe
and
features a local Rock Band.
Similar Live performances can also be found at Anywhere
with Tania (with
a Contry Western twist at the Tanglin Mall) and
BarNone with Energy
(basement of the Marriot Hotel at the
junction of Scotts and Orchard). Further
down Orchard Road (toward East)
is Papa
Joe at the Peranakan
Place. Looking for cigars, wine, a game of
pool and beers?
The slope
next
to Peranakan Place along Emerald
Hill are Ice
Cold Beer and Que
Pasa
and other plush
joints
(local
and expats). Still
further down at the corner at Orchard
Point you'll fine a lone street (formerely
known as Cuppage Road now closed to traffic)
brightly dacked with outdoor dinning
and a jazz and wine pub.
